What would you like to know about me?

Who am I?

My name is Julia Klein.

I do Biomedical Visualization. What is "biomedical visualization"? Well it used to be called "medical illustration" and traditionally involved drawing pictures and illustrations for textbooks and journal articles etc. Now everything is done on the computer so the degree had to have a more high-tech sounding name.

I am nearly finished with a graduate degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Biomedical Visualization. In addition to practicing many of the traditional techniques, we have learned very advanced computer programs. This program has been a very good experience for me. I expect to graduate in May 2009. I just need to finish my research Project.

I earned my B.S. from the University of Arizona in Physiological sciences. Again, what's that? Well, physiology is basicly how your body and cells work. For that, I took almost every science class imagimable and ended up with a minor in chemistry. In order to prevent a science overload, I also minored in studio art. The ceramic pieces on this website are a result of ceramics being the only class available by the time I registered each semster. Not that I'm complaing, art is fun and so is science. Amazingly I've found something that I can do both at the same time.

My main area of intrest involves working in 3D. I like creating 3D models, be it prosthetics, or in the computer with programs such as 3ds max and Maya. This love of 3D has drawn me to animation because it blends many areas and always presents challanging new problems to solve. I hope to blend some 3-D elements into my research project.

Where am I?

Right now, I live in San Francisco, CA. I work for eveo.com as there MOA department science consultant.

I interned at Hansen Medical in Mountain View, CA where I got to create animations of a 3-D beating heart for demonstrating their medical device. I've already completed my classes at UIC and just need to fly back to present my research sometime soon hopefully. I miss Chicago because of everything I ran out of time to do but there are now new things in California that I can be a part of.
